Dear Cursor AI Development Team,

First, I would like to thank you for developing such an incredible tool. Cursor AI has been a great addition to my workflow, and I truly appreciate the effort you’ve put into creating a seamless user experience.

As an Ubuntu user, I’ve noticed that Cursor AI is currently distributed as an AppImage. While this format is convenient, many Ubuntu users, including myself, would find it beneficial if a `.deb` package were also available. This would make the installation and integration with the system even more straightforward, particularly for those who rely on package managers like `apt`.

Providing a `.deb` package could potentially attract a broader audience and improve the adoption rate among Linux users.

Thank you for considering this suggestion. I’m looking forward to seeing how Cursor AI evolves in the future.

Best regards,
Wil

If I can believe: [Cursor install Ubuntu 24.04 - #41 by deanrie](https://forum.cursor.com/t/cursor-install-ubuntu-24-04/4838/41)

This will hopefully be delivered soon! I also want to just have a deb file. It shouldn’t be hard, and it will be much better integrated with Linux (eg. for Ubuntu, Linux Mint users or alike).

Currently VSCode & Windsurf are also providing deb files, which works much better than AppImage. In Windsurf the application just automatically forks to the background. No weird issues in the virtual terminal of the editor itself. No need to manually create desktop files or whatever…

I really really want to see a deb file soon!

If you look up the history of this issue, its almost as old as the company is. They keep promising… Windsurf has a deb.

I got notified of an update again today, so I guess I gotta do all that bs… again.

You could try my script if that helps..?: [Extracting Cursor from AppImage ($621) · Snippets · GitLab](https://gitlab.melroy.org/-/snippets/621)

In the meanwhile I try to keep pushing Cursor for a deb, rpm etc. files.

Native .deb and RPM releases are now available! 🎉

> [@Linux DEB and RPM Downloads](https://forum.cursor.com/t/linux-deb-and-rpm-downloads/132054):
>
> Hey all, It’s taken us some time, but we now have both .deb and RPM releases of Cursor available for download and use, alongside our standard AppImage format. Once you download it via the website, Cursor will automatically add the necessary repositories to your system on first launch, which can then be used to update Cursor using your package manager of choice. Happy coding raising_hands

You guys sure like to make this complicated 🙂 How do I get the latest url for the deb package. I just want to run a single command to automate the installation of the package.
