I am writing to express my disappointment regarding a restriction I just encountered on the Free Plan.
I was trying to change the display language of the IDE to Spanish. However, because this action was being processed through the AI Composer/Agent, it got completely blocked halfway through simply because I hit my usage limit for the month.
Restricting premium AI features when limits are reached is completely understandable. However, blocking a user from configuring basic accessibility and localization settings—like changing the application language—unless they pay for a Pro subscription feels incredibly restrictive and unfair. Basic settings should not depend on AI usage quotas or paywalls.
I hope you consider separating core IDE settings and fundamental accessibility features from the premium AI usage limits in future updates.
Hey, thanks for the feedback, but here’s the good news: switching the UI language isn’t locked behind AI or Pro. You don’t need to pay anything for it.
What happened: you asked Agent to apply the changes, and the agent run hit the Free plan monthly usage limit. The limit will reset in the next cycle, but you don’t need Agent for changing the language, so Agent is unnecessary here.
Free way without AI:
Editor window → Ctrl+Shift+P → Configure Display Language
Install the Español pack
Fully restart Cursor. Reload Window isn’t always enough, so it’s better to close it and open it again
One note: some parts of Cursor’s own UI like the Agent panel, some Settings items, and menus are only partially localized, and the Agents Window isn’t localized at all yet. So the VS Code part of the UI will be translated, but some English will remain, and that’s expected right now. Full localization is something we’re working on.
Let me know if the language still doesn’t apply after a restart.
