Initially Cursor chat would automatically open files in the editor when it created or edited them. There were requests to be able to disable this feature:
Then this behavior was removed, and there were more requests to add back in this feature, but with the option to be able to disable it:
Now Cursor chat is automatically opening files again, but there still doesn’t seem to be a way to choose whether this behavior is enabled or disabled, or at least I couldn’t find anything about it in when searching settings or documentation or the forums. Please add this as a configurable setting so that each user can chose the behavior that works best with their given workflow.
I have the same problem and it is incredibly frustrating. I will be trying to read or type response, and the view will automatically kick over to one that shows code and the reference files. I will have to find the button to click back, but it often immediately bounces back. This can happen multiple times within 20-30 seconds. You can’t make it “lock” into one view to keep working.
There should be a setting to keep the view from bouncing away from what you are working on. This is by FAR the most negative part of the experience of working in Cursor.. I am nearly to the point of ditching the service and going to another AI that will be less frustrating to work with.
There may be some hidden setting that helps? I can’t find it the cursor agent can’t seem to help.
