Severe performance degradation and Plan Mode output not rendering after today's update

Description
After today’s update, Cursor is extremely slow and Plan Mode is broken with Opus 4.7 (and Sonnet). The model generates output that is never rendered in the agent window. Only follow-up questions appear, referencing context that was never displayed. API usage increases while this happens (~3% of my Ultra subscription), confirming the model is running, but the output is invisible in the UI. The app also hangs frequently on “Taking longer than expected” and eventually becomes unresponsive, requiring a force-close via Task Manager.

Reproduction

  1. Open Cursor and start a Plan Mode session with Opus 4.7 (also reproduces with Sonnet).

  2. Send a prompt requiring a plan.

  3. Observe: the agent window shows no plan output, only multiple-choice clarifying questions that reference unseen context.

  4. API usage increases despite no visible output.

  5. App eventually hangs and must be force-closed.

Persists across app restarts and full PC restarts. Occurred multiple times today.

Impact
Yes, this stops me from using Cursor. Plan Mode is unusable, and the hangs make general use impractical.

Hi @Zeerats Thanks for the forum post, and I’m sorry for the disruption here. We’re currently investigating an ongoing service degradation affecting Cursor agent surfaces, including the IDE and Anthropic models, which may explain the slowdowns and Plan Mode behavior you’re seeing: https://status.cursor.com/

Once that incident is resolved, we’d like to revisit this with you and confirm whether the invisible Plan Mode output and hangs are still happening. If they continue after the status page shows recovery, we’ll treat that as a separate issue and look into it more.

Thanks for the response and the heads-up; that lines up with the timing. I’ll keep an eye on the status page.

One thing worth flagging is that during the broken Plan Mode sessions, my API usage still increased by about 3-5% of my Ultra allowance despite no usable output ever reaching the UI. Not sure if that’s useful signal for diagnosing where the output is getting lost, but figured it was worth mentioning.

Let me know if there’s anything useful I can provide (logs, screen recording, etc.), though there isn’t much to see. Happy to help narrow it down if it turns out to be separate.

Can you try the same steps now and see if you can reproduce the issue? Please update Cursor if there is an update available. We resolved the incident in the last few minutes.

If you are able to, a request ID for the problematic chat would be immensely helpful, even better if you can temporarily disable privacy mode if you have it enabled first before re-creating.

To disable Privacy Mode:

  1. Open Cursor Settings with Cmd+Shift+J on macOS or Ctrl+Shift+J on Windows/Linux.

  2. Go to General.

  3. Turn Privacy Mode off / switch to Share Data.

To get the Request ID:

  1. Click the ... menu.

  2. Select Copy Request ID.

There was no update available. It did write the plan now, even though it was nowhere to be found in the chat output. I could find it under /.cursor/plans after a while. It showed no activity while creating the plan. It just stopped the output at “Created plan” without showing the usual box with the “Build” button or opening it in a new tab afterwards.
