I never made these skills, I dont know when they were added or why.. but more importantly how do i remove them?
Hey @JWVerzijden!
Third-party skills are skills sourced from directories outside your .cursor/skills/ directory. This typically means:
- Cursor Marketplace Plugins: when you install a plugin from the marketplace, it can bundle skills alongside rules and MCP servers.
- Cross-agent directories – Cursor automatically discovers skills from
.claude/skills/,.claude/plugins/, and.codex/skills/for compatibility with other AI coding tools (Claude Code, Codex, etc.).
To remove them, you have a few options:
- Uninstall the plugin that provides them. Go to Cursor Settings > Plugins, find the plugin providing those skills, and remove it. This removes all skills, rules, and MCP servers bundled with that plugin.
- Disable third-party imports globally. In Cursor Settings > Rules, Skills, Subagents, toggle off “Include third-party Plugins, Skills, and other configs”. This stops Cursor from importing any third-party configs.
- Delete from the filesystem if they come from
.claude/or.codex/directories placed by other tools.
I dont have ~/.claude/ or ~/.codex/ though. Never used them on this machine, only worked with cursor since the start.
I’m not sure why a extension would force their non removable skills in my settings…. makes no sense to me.
Which extension is causing this, i attached a screenshot of my installed extensions, I do not believe any of these add these skills, they dont have a reason to do so.
