PLEASE STOP defaulting to Grok 4.6 High. I open Cursor to continue work after an update and immediately it has defaulted to Grok High without my permission or even asking if I want to use it. Cursor should respect my configuration. I don’t even have Grok in my selected models yet it is enabled on updates and forced upon me. How about asking the User what model they want to use as default when an update is installed or just respecting the Users previous setting in Cursor..?
Hi @MrCheese Thanks for the post, I hear your concern. You can change this behavior by going to Agents in Cursor Settings and changing the Default model to Last Used rather than Cursor Default.
My setting which was entirely ignored @kevinn (that or Cursor now means Grok and that should be displayed correctly as far as I’m concerned ‘Cursor Default’ is Composer?) This area of settings needs correcting to state the model selected not an obscure reference that could easily be misconstrued by simple folk like me…
I appreciate Grok may well be something the Cursor Team is ‘forced’ to push. However this is inflating Grok’s usage dramatically resulting in an entirely false metric based upon the decision of Cursor and not the User. In our situation we are not making the choice to use Grok, Cursor is doing this by default. The default model is set to Cursor Default (see above).
My suggestion is this setting is made clear to the User to avoid this happening. That would rectify the issue. However Cursor is still pushing Grok 4.6 Heavy regardless or am I wrong here?
