Hello @condor,
I’m a USC student and have been unable to get verified for the Cursor Pro student offer for four months. I keep getting the “Verification Limit Exceeded” error, and SheerID keeps rejecting my documents even though I’ve provided everything they asked for via email.
Could someone from the Cursor team please help reset/override my verification?
Happy to share all details privately via DM. Thank you!
Hey @condor
I’m a PhD student at Stanford University, and I am having the same issue as everyone else.
I completed all the steps and got the email of successful verification (as shown below). Clicking “continue verification”, however, gives me “This verification is expired. Please submit a new verification” message. And trying verification process again gives “Verification Limit Exceeded” error.
Tried reaching out to Sheer ID and that didn’t help. Would be grateful for any help.
Best,
Umer

Same issue as everyone else. I have tried numerous times to verify through SheerID. It seems to work, but I never get the verification email. If I message Cursor support, I just get the AI bot saying it isn’t their problem. If I email SheerID support, I get a generic response email that clearly shows it is either automated or very poor AI. At the very least, my email has not been read whatsoever.
I got locked out after about my third attempt. I cannot get any actual support as the ‘support’ from both Cursor and SheerID are autogenerated and/or AI.
This is wholly unacceptable.
Hello there. I’m logged in with my educational email address in both the cursor and forum. I sent my ID documentation to sheer id, and received the verification success email. Now, it says that I’ve already redeemed the promo and it is not linked to my account. It gives me the option to apply again for the education discount but when I do it tells me that I have already attempted or I have already redeemed the promo which is not true.
Hi, I followed all of the steps outlined in the student verification instructions. I logged into Cursor with my .edu email and completed the initial SheerID verification by submitting my passport. I then received an email from SheerID saying that my verification was approved and that I needed to move on to the second stage.
When I clicked the button in that email to continue, I immediately got an error message saying there was an issue verifying, even though I had not uploaded anything yet. I tried multiple times and the same error kept appearing.
I contacted SheerID directly, but they told me they were unable to process my request, closed my ticket, and did not provide any solution. Now the system tells me that I am out of attempts.
I am not sure what went wrong since I followed all instructions, and I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction. Thank you.
Hi @condor
I am attempting to verify my student status but I am receiving an error from SheerID stating “It looks like we’re having difficulty verifying you.”
I submitted my drivers license.
I received the email above.
I have already emailed SheerID support as requested by the error page a week ago, and I have received no response.
I am logged into this forum and my Cursor account with the same .edu email address.
I am happy to provide a school transcript or ID but I wasn’t given that option.
Could you please assist via DM?
Thank you.
I submitted my driver’s license to complete the student status verification, but I received the message: “We had trouble validating your ID. Please contact SheerID support.”
I contacted support last week but have not received any response. I also tried the verification process multiple times, but it still does not work.
I submitted my driver’s license but I got an error message saying “We had trouble validating your ID. Please contact SheerID support.”
I contacted them but I just get a generic template response saying “Hello, Thanks for contacting SheerID. We were unable to process your verification request. While we can’t offer further details or support for this specific inquiry, please ensure all information submitted is accurate and meets the eligibility criteria for future attempts. Your ticket has now been permanently closed.”
Hii @condor
I’m reaching out because I’m having trouble completing the student verification process. I am stuck in a loop with the following error:
“Verification Limit Exceeded - We’re glad you’re enthusiastic, but it looks like you’ve already redeemed or attempted to redeem this offer.”
I followed the steps, but my initial attempts were rejected by SheerID. When I try to fix it, I get this error, and my SheerID support tickets are auto-closed without resolution.
Could you please review or reset my verification status so I can retry with other documents?
Thank you.
@condor I tried to submit the verification several times, and now I also got the verification limit exceeded, could you help me?
Hi all — I’m hoping someone from the Cursor team can help clarify a student verification issue that appears to be stuck between Cursor’s automated system and SheerID.
I verified my student status through SheerID, and the verification was approved. I received the confirmation email, but in Cursor it still says “validate student status.” When I try to complete the process again, I get:
**“Verification Limit Exceeded — it looks like you’ve already redeemed or attempted to redeem this offer.”
**
I contacted SheerID, and they said that: a) the verification is approved and valid, b) it cannot be resubmitted, and c) Cursor support must apply the approved verification.
I’ve reached out to the support email, but I seem to be stuck in a loop with the AI assistant “Sam,” so I haven’t been able to reach a human representative.
At this point, I’m hoping for guidance on how to resolve the issue. For context, I’m not certain, but I think the problem may stem from how my university assigns email addresses. We’re given two different addresses that both deliver to the same inbox — a firstname.lastname version and a separate username-based version. The username-based address is the one tied to my Google login and authentication. I suspect this may have caused the mismatch between what SheerID verified and what Cursor expects.
I can share any account-specific details privately if a Cursor team member is able to follow up.
Thanks very much for any help!
Having issues where it is saying that I reached my verification limit but the email is not a student status yet. And I have no redeemed
Hi @condor,
I’m an international student at a Canadian university. I’m stuck in the verification loop and need help.
The SheerID widget forces “Canada” as the country but rejects my Study Permit, and it doesn’t let me switch countries to use my valid [country of origin] Passport.
I’ve already emailed SheerID support, but seeing other reports here, they usually just reset the attempts without solving the actual document issue (since the widget config is the problem).
Could you please reach out via DM? I have all my valid docs ready to prove my status. I also have other student discounts already verified and applied: Github, Perplexity, Google AI Pro.
Thanks in advance!
Hi Cursor Support Team,
I would like to report an ongoing issue with my student verification through SheerID.
I am currently using Cursor with my .edu student email, and I have never successfully redeemed the student offer. However, when I attempt verification, I receive the error:
“Verification Limit Exceeded — looks like you’ve already redeemed or attempted to redeem this offer.”
To ensure the issue is not on my side, I have already:
• Confirmed my Cursor account uses my .edu email
• Tried multiple browsers and cleared cache
• Uploaded valid student documentation
• Contacted SheerID Support, but they are unable to assist
• Attempted verification multiple times, but the system blocks me immediately
Since many students are experiencing the same issue, I kindly ask if someone from the Cursor team can:
Help reset the verification status for my account, or
Check whether my verification attempts were incorrectly recorded on SheerID’s side
I am an enrolled student and would really appreciate any help to resolve this so I can access the student plan.
Thank you very much.
If you’re a student, do NOT count on ever getting the student discount. Just pay full price or use a different editor, because this verification system is broken, Cursor doesn’t care, and their “support” agent is a chatbot that can only say sorry. Cursor is fully aware of the problem but continues to do nothing and hides behind “we can’t do anything, talk to SheerID.”
SheerID has ignored my case for weeks, repeatedly demanded sensitive documents, and responded with useless copy-paste messages that don’t address anything. The “Verification Limit Exceeded” error never gets resolved.
In the end SheerID never verified me, kept all my personal data (I had to separately contact [email protected] to demand deletion, which I STILL have not heard back from), and Cursor lost a paying customer. The whole process feels like a scammy data grab and is extremely disrespectful to students who just want to use the product.
Cursor forces students into a broken third-party system, then refuses to take responsibility when it fails. It feels more like data collection than verification.
1/5 stars – seemingly decent product, shameful customer experience.
[Admin - Condor: please do not make false assumptions, we are here to provide support, I reached out via DM]
why theres no philippines in the country selection? ![]()
Yep, this issue is still going strong. I’ve been going back and forth since August between sheerID support and Cursor support and all I get is canned responses from Sheer and AI responses from Cursor. Cursor refers me to Sheer and Sheer says there’s nothing they can do. As far as I can tell, no human has looked at this from either side. If they have, they sure didn’t care enough to write out a response themselves. And the ID pictures I did submit back when I wasn’t completely locked out were EXTREMELY clear.
