Yep, this issue is still going strong. I’ve been going back and forth since August between sheerID support and Cursor support and all I get is canned responses from Sheer and AI responses from Cursor. Cursor refers me to Sheer and Sheer says there’s nothing they can do. As far as I can tell, no human has looked at this from either side. If they have, they sure didn’t care enough to write out a response themselves. And the ID pictures I did submit back when I wasn’t completely locked out were EXTREMELY clear.

Dear @condor ,

I am a student a UChicago. I have an [email protected] email address.

I tried to verify my identity using Sheer by uploading my driver’s license. It said “failed to verify identity.”

I then contacted Sheer about the issue and they said there is nothing they can do about it, as their system is automated.

After 1-2 attempts, I now have this message:

Please help! I can provide any information you need (student id, transcripts, etc.)

I am writing this post out of sheer frustration because the verification process via SheerID is completely broken and is wasting my time.

The Timeline: I have been going in circles with verification errors and “limit exceeded” blocks since November 26th. It has been weeks of trying to get this to work.

Current Status: After weeks of struggling, on December 13th, I finally managed to submit a fresh, correct verification request.

  1. I successfully uploaded my Passport.

  2. I successfully uploaded my valid Student ID (Legitymacja studencka).

  3. Since the documents are in Polish, the system stated that the verification would take “30 minutes, or up to a few days” for manual review.

The Problem: Despite successfully submitting everything, there is absolute radio silence. I have received no email confirmation, no approval, and no rejection. Nothing.

I have done everything strictly according to the rules. I provided valid legal documents. Yet, I am still left in limbo without any feedback. It is incredibly irritating to be blocked from using the tool for my studies due to a silent failure on the verification partner’s side.

I am not posting my email or ID here for privacy reasons. Could a member of the Cursor team please reach out to me via DM so I can provide my details for manual approval? I just want this resolved.

I am experiencing the same issue as many others on this forum. I logged in with my .edu email and attempted to verify my identity using Sheer by uploading my driver’s license. Each time, I received a message saying “failed to verify my identity,” even though I uploaded clear pictures of both the front and back of my license. After three attempts, I now see the message “Verification Limit Exceeded.” Can someone please help me troubleshoot this? Thank you!

Hi @condor. I’m a PhD candidate at a U.S. university using my .edu address (logged into Cursor and the Forum with the same .edu). When I start verification at the Students page, I immediately get a “SheerID verification limit exceeded” error and cannot proceed to the ID step. SheerID support advised me to try again, but the error appears right away (no chance to resubmit). Cursor’s in-app AI support directed me back to SheerID, so I’m stuck in a loop.

Could a Cursor team member please DM me to help coordinate a reset/reissue of the SheerID verification flow (or advise the exact steps I should ask SheerID for as the offer owner)?

I am a Law student from Australia and have experienced similar issues when verifying my student identity. Can’t get past the drivers Licence verification stage. I’m met with the attached error message. Please reach would really appreciate some support.

I am having the same issue as everyone else in this thread with regards to the student verification limit being exceeded. I contacted the SheerID support team but they responded (and continue to respond) with a copy paste answer about them not being able to help until I complete verification. This doesn’t make much sense, since if I had completed verification I wouldn’t need help. I do have a vertical USA ID, and I don’t know if that makes a difference, but if it does I need instructions on how to verify given this. I also need the verification limit reset.

To anyone who posted a while ago for a student discount, check your spam folder and your cursor account! I was given the student discount but the email went to spam and I didn’t think to check

I am reaching out because I have been having trouble with verifying and applying the student discount. I first tried November 30th where I was able to send in a picture of my ID for verification and got an email back saying my identity was confirmed. After clicking on the link it would redirect me back to the verification page. I left it alone for a couple weeks and today when I decided to try again I am now getting a verification limit exceeded.

I have already tried contacting SheerID but if my identity was successfully verified, cursor is the only one that can fix this issue.

I recieved an email saying SheerID confirmed my student status, and to contact cursor for anymore queries. The link that is supposed to take me to the stripe page to pay is not functioning. It simply just takes me to my cursor account.

Hi Cursor Team, I have an issue where the verification is saying

Verification Limit Exceeded We’re glad you’re enthusiastic, but it looks like you’ve already redeemed or attempted to redeem this offer.”

I have tried to verify my account before, and I had a sheerID issue, and I gave it another try now but it’s saying I’ve already redeemed the offer. I have not received the student benefits however. I would greatly appreciate any help! Thanks.

Hi Cursor Team,

There is a bug in the verification loop with SheerID and Cursor. You can verify student eligibility before creating an account. This makes it so that you reach the maximum amount of verifications allowed by Sheer while simultaneously not having the promotion applied to your account.

I was unfortunately the victim of this bug: I am a student at Georgia Tech and I’m stuck in a support loop between Cursor and SheerID.

My student status was successfully verified by SheerID on Dec 10th.

However, the Cursor dashboard did not update to the Pro plan.

When I try to re-verify, SheerID blocks me because I’ve already been approved once in 365 days.

SheerID support told me they cannot reset it and that Cursor needs to manually apply the redemption.

Email support (Karen) keeps sending me the same copy-pasted response saying they “can’t manually apply discounts.”

I have already added a payment method to my account as requested, but the “Limit Exceeded” error persists. Can a dev please look at my Request ID and manually sync my account?

Steps to Reproduce

Verify successfully via sheer with an .edu email, and then create your cursor account using that .edu email. The discount does not apply.

Expected Behavior

When you create an account, Cursor should detect you have already verified yourself as a student and automatically apply the discount.

I’ve been experiencing an issue with student status verification. SheerID was unable to verify the documents I uploaded, even though the documents fully met the requirements listed on their website (tuition PDF, transcript and class schedule showing my full name, school name, and current enrollment date).

Since my initial request in November 2025, this issue has remained unresolved for over a month. During this time, I followed up with SheerID multiple times to check the status, but did not receive any response, which was really frustrating. What’s making it more annoying is that they do not provide alternative support channels such as a phone number or feedback forum, so basically I lost contact with them when they stopped replying to emails.

I understand this issue is on SheerID’s side, but they are a partner in your verification process, and their failure and poor support affect our use and experience of your product. So I wonder if your team could help escalate or assist in resolving it. From user comments, it seems I’m not alone—many students are also blocked from accessing Cursor due to verification issues.

I want to add that I really appreciate the effort your team has already put into improving the verification process, since I noticed the ID verification flow (not the student document verification part) was greatly improved. Also, creating this space to gather user feedback truly shows that your team cares about the user experience. I hope you can help resolve this remaining verification issue so eligible students can move forward without unnecessary barriers.

I’m having some issues with student verification as well.

When I uploaded my required documents, SheerID sent me an email saying: “Great news! We have successfully confirmed your identity and you may continue verifying.”

However, when I clicked the link on the email to continue, it redirected me to an error page telling me to contact SheerID, even though my ID upload was accepted and verified without any issues. Since writing to SheerID, I have not received a response, and based on other user issues, it seems that they won’t even respond.

I then tried to restart the verification process, but it has now been stuck for several days on “We’re reviewing your documents.” On top of that, I’ve now hit the verification attempt limit, so I can’t retry anymore.

Since my ID was already accepted successfully, I’m unsure what the next step should be or how to proceed.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Sent a picture of my ID and it wasn’t good enough supposedly. Now it says verification limit exceeded. I haven’t had issues with Sheer in the past.
