Did they give you $50 credits? If so, those are just one time credits on your account that can be used for paying subscription or ondemand requests. You can see your credits on https://cursor.com/dashboard/billing
Sometimes Cursor does let you go over your monthly limit, and you will see that in the editor labeled as “free usage”. This amount is not guaranteed every month. Often Cursor will let me do an API request every 6 or so hours even after its told me I hit my limit.
Hey, not a silly question at all, it’s really easy to get confused here.
That $50 extra usage you unlocked is an on-demand spending limit (a spending cap), not a one-time purchase and not an auto-renewing add-on to your subscription. Here’s how it works:
Your Pro plan includes $20 of usage per month. Once that runs out, on-demand billing kicks in, so you only pay for what you actually use beyond what’s included.
The $50 is the maximum they can charge for on-demand in a single billing cycle. If you use less, you pay less, or $0 if you stay within the $20.
The limit stays set as a setting until you change it, but the on-demand usage counter resets every billing cycle. So it’s not $50 added to your subscription every month, you’re only charged what you really use.
Worst case for a month is $20 base plus up to $50 on-demand, so $70 total, and only if you actually use that much.
You can change or disable the on-demand limit anytime in Settings > Usage inside Cursor, or on the dashboard https://cursor.com/dashboard.
One small clarification to the earlier answer: in your case it’s a spending cap, not one-time credits, so you don’t need to worry about it expiring after one use. It’s just a cap setting.
