The Task tool is not available. This means the delegation mechanism via subagents isn’t available in this context. Let me explain this to the user.

Looking at the system information, I see that I have access to various tools like Shell, Grep, Glob, LS, Read, Delete, StrReplace, Write, EditNotebook, TodoWrite, ReadLints, SemanticSearch, WebSearch, WebFetch, GenerateImage, AskQuestion, CallMcpTool, ListMcpResources, FetchMcpResource, and SwitchMode.

There is no “Task” tool available. The subagent delegation context mentioned in the system prompt is guidance for how to delegate, but the actual Task tool doesn’t exist in this environment.

Hey, thanks for the report. This looks like a known issue, and the team is already working on a fix.

Just to be safe, can you share the Request ID from the chat where the Task tool isn’t showing up? (Click the three dots in the top-right of the chat, then select Copy Request ID.)

@Cheez_One @Guillaume_Costanza - can you help with diagnostics? I need a Request ID with Privacy Mode turned off:

  1. Open Cursor Settings (Ctrl+Shift+J or Cmd+Shift+J)
  2. Find “Privacy Mode”
  3. Turn it off temporarily
  4. Try running the agent with sub-agent again (to reproduce the error)
  5. Copy the Request ID (three dots in chat > Copy Request ID)
  6. Send it here

After that you can turn Privacy Mode back on right away.

Hey, quick update.

Composer 1 doesn’t support sub-agents yet. If you’re using Auto mode and it picks Composer 1 under the hood, the Task tool just won’t be available.

Workaround: pick a specific model instead of Auto (for example, Claude Sonnet 4.5 or GPT-5.2). Sub-agents should work fine with other models.

when will subagents be supported on a cost free model?

Arent Free models wiped out already for quite a while? ^^

@Eddy I meant composer-1 :slight_smile:

maybe i missed the memo but that one wasnt free for a long time anymore either?

We don’t get credits consumed for using composer-1 in my enterprise.

Hey all!

Composer 1.5 has been released, supporting subagents. That means that when using Auto, you should always have access to subagents.

@Colin I tried using composer-1.5. It doesn’t spawn subagents for me. Am I missing something?

You’re gonna have to share more details than that! How did you try to spawn them?

@Colin I have a command that spawns subagents on demand from the main agent. Please tell me what info I can share that will help you help me.

Task tool is unavailable for me even with composer 1.5.

Maybe share the REquest ID so they can look into it directly (Privacy mode needs to be disabled for that)

It’s with “time of this comment ± 5mins”

My enterprise is on privacy mode(legacy). I dont think requestId can be traced. I cant disable this mode as I’m not admin. Nor can I request for this to be disabled.
