The Agents Window and switching between Agent and Editor modes feel heavier and less polished than tools like Devin Desktop IDE.

Pain points

  • Layout resets when switching between Agent and Editor
  • Side panels reopen/close unexpectedly during mode changes
  • Transitions feel cluttered rather than seamless
  • Multi-window Agent layout causes frequent re-layout on focus change

Expected behavior (Devin Desktop–style)

  • Clean, minimal Agent window focused on the task
  • Smooth, predictable transitions between Agent and IDE
  • Persistent layout state (sidebar visibility, panel sizes)
  • Less UI churn, more focus on code and agent output

Why this matters
Mode switching is a core daily workflow. When layout state doesn’t persist or the UI constantly re-layouts, it breaks concentration and slows development.

Hey there!

Two things that help today:

  1. Cursor Settings → General → Startup → Window Restoration → set Last Used Windows, then quit while you’re in the window you want to land in next time.
  2. From the Agents Window, Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+N (or Command Palette → Open IDE) jumps back to the classic editor quickly.

There isn’t per-mode memory for sidebar/panel sizes yet, so those resets aren’t something you misconfigured. We’ll be tracking this thread to gauge interest, which helps our product team prioritize. If others hit the same friction, chime in here.
