The CLI doesn't find the linear mcp

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor CLI

Describe the Bug

The Linear MCP tool is working from cursor but the cli reports

I don’t currently see Linear MCP tools exposed to this session. The
available MCP/tool surface includes New Relic tools, and
ListMcpResources returned no MCP resources.

If the Linear plugin is installed but not showing up, it may need to
be enabled/reloaded in Cursor or the session restarted. Once Linear
MCP tools appear in my tool list, I can use them directly.

Steps to Reproduce

Asking the agent to use the linear mcp

Operating System

MacOS

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

This is a known limitation right now. Plugin-based MCPs (like Linear, Figma, etc.) that you install through the Cursor marketplace aren’t currently loaded by the CLI. That’s why your New Relic server (which is configured in your .cursor/mcp.json) works fine in the CLI, but Linear doesn’t show up.

Our team is actively working on bringing CLI and IDE MCP parity closer together, including making plugin MCPs available in CLI sessions.

For now there isn’t a workaround for plugin MCPs in the CLI specifically, but I wanted to confirm this is tracked and on our radar.

Hey @Ilan_Caspi!

We’ve made some changes in this area since you posted. Could you confirm whether the Linear MCP still doesn’t show up in your CLI session on the latest version of the CLI?

Hey @Colin

I confirm that the Linear MCP is available in the latest CLI version. On a different note once a week it will randomly will require to authenticate but that’s probably a different topic.
