The model selection has disappeared from the terminal

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

The model selection field for generating commands in the terminal is gone. By default, it sends requests in auto mode, which counts as one request on the old request-based tariff.

Steps to Reproduce

To access the terminal in Cursor, press Ctrl+K and see that the model selection is missing. When sending a request in billing, it will be evident that the request is processed by the auto model.

Expected Behavior

To access the terminal in Cursor, press Ctrl+K and see that the model selection is present. Choose the desired model (for example, gpt-4o-mini) and press Enter to generate a command with the selected model.

Additional Information

I have to use the agent mode with the required model, which is much less convenient. I am very upset; I have always used this feature a lot, and now I really miss it.

Does this stop you from using Cursor

Sometimes - I can sometimes use Cursor

hi @Tassadar and thank you for the detailed post. As we removed this selection I have passed your feedback to the team.

@condor I see, so you intentionally removed the selection option. I’m curious, why was this done?

I do not have those details at the moment but I assume for stability and performance reasons as Auto was improved for handling of prompts and commands.
