Hi, if I designate my own Gemini API key in Cursor Agent Settings, Can I use it when my Cursor API and Composer reaches 100%?
Hey, quick answer to your question:
Yes, but only for the Gemini models themselves. If you add your Gemini API key in Settings → Models, you can keep using Gemini models even after your included usage hits 100%. BYOK requests don’t count toward Cursor limits, and Cursor doesn’t charge for them. You’ll be billed directly by Google.
Your Gemini key won’t unlock Composer (Cursor’s own model) or agent requests on premium models (Claude, GPT, etc.). Those run on Cursor’s infrastructure and use the included usage pool. Once the pool is used up, your options are on-demand usage, waiting for the cycle reset, or upgrading.
About Tab: Tab completions on Pro are unlimited and don’t use that pool, so they should keep working even at 100%. If you see Tab stop working at 100%, that’s not expected. Send your Cursor version and we’ll take a look.
