Unable to reconnect Grok Bot – SELF_SIGNED_CERT_IN_CHAIN and multiple connection failures

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Grok Bot

Describe the Bug

Hi, I’m having an issue reconnecting to Grok Bot in Cursor.
The bot was working before, but now I’m unable to reconnect. I ran the Network Debugger / Check Access tool, and it shows that DNS resolution is working correctly, but most of the Cursor/Grok Bot services are failing.
The main error I can see is:
API TLS: TLS certificate untrusted: SELF_SIGNED_CERT_IN_CHAIN
After that, the API connection fails with ConnectError, and several other services return TypeError, including:

  • Auth page
  • Auth UI
  • Auth service
  • Updates feed
  • Updates download
  • Feature flags
  • Origin API
  • Telemetry
  • Voice realtime
The debugger also shows the *.cursorvm.com computer endpoints as unavailable.
I would like to reconnect Grok Bot, but I’m not sure whether the issue is caused by Cursor itself, my network configuration, a proxy/firewall, or a TLS certificate being injected somewhere in the connection.
I have attached screenshots of the Network Debugger results.
Could someone please help me identify what is causing the SELF_SIGNED_CERT_IN_CHAIN error and what I need to configure or reset in order to reconnect Grok Bot?
If additional logs or diagnostic information are required, please let me know what I should provide.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Steps to Reproduce

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open Grok Bot and try to use/reconnect to Grok Bot.
  2. Grok Bot fails to connect and remains unavailable.
  3. Open the Network Debugger.
  4. Click Check Access to test the connection.
  5. DNS resolution succeeds, but the API TLS check reports: TLS certificate untrusted: SELF_SIGNED_CERT_IN_CHAIN.
  6. The API connection then fails with ConnectError.
  7. Multiple related services also fail with TypeError, including authentication, updates, feature flags, Origin API, telemetry, and Voice Realtime.
  8. The *.cursorvm.com computer endpoints are shown as unavailable.
  9. Retry reconnecting to Grok Bot, but the issue persists.
    Actual behavior:
Grok Bot cannot reconnect, and the Network Debugger reports TLS certificate and connection errors across multiple Cursor services.

Expected Behavior

Grok Bot should connect normally and all required Cursor services should be reachable.

Operating System

Windows 10/11

Version Information

For grok bot 0.47.0

For AI issues: which model did you use?

grok 4.6

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Update / resolved

The issue was caused by Kaspersky HTTPS scanning (SSL/TLS inspection), not by Grok Bot or my Cursor account.

Kaspersky intercepts HTTPS traffic and injects its own certificate into the chain. Network Debugger then reports:

API TLS: TLS certificate untrusted: SELF_SIGNED_CERT_IN_CHAIN

After that, Auth, Updates, Feature flags, Origin API, Telemetry, Voice realtime, and *.cursorvm.com all failed. DNS still worked because it isn’t HTTPS.

Fix: disable Kaspersky HTTPS/SSL scanning (or exclude Cursor / Grok Bot), or briefly use another network without that interception. After that, Grok Bot reconnects normally.

Hope this helps anyone hitting the same SELF_SIGNED_CERT_IN_CHAIN error.
