Feature request for product/service
Cursor IDE
Describe the request
Summary
Personal Agent Skills under ~/.cursor/skills/ (and ~/.agents/skills/) are discovered from the agent runtime home, not from a single user profile.
On Windows + WSL2, that means:
- Agents Window / Windows-side chat → sees
C:\Users\<user>\.cursor\skills\ - Agent chat with a WSL workspace → sees only
/home/<user>/.cursor/skills/(Linux home)
So the same user can have skills like better-ui / antislop on Windows and completely miss them in WSL projects, while WSL-only skills (e.g. installed under Linux ~/.agents/skills/) never appear on the Windows side.
This matches what Cursor docs already say for Cloud Agents / remote SSH (personal skills stay on that machine), but WSL is easy to miss because the app runs on Windows while the agent filesystem is Linux.
Related community report with the same environment: Cursor local plugin install did not load on Windows + WSL; project-level .cursor/skills worked · Issue #3 · entireio/skills · GitHub (project .cursor/skills/ worked; Windows personal/plugin paths did not for a WSL repo).
Environment
- OS: Windows 11 + WSL2
- Cursor: desktop IDE (Windows app)
- Workspace: repo opened via WSL / Remote-WSL
- Skills present on Windows:
C:\Users\<user>\.cursor\skills\better-ui, etc. - Skills on WSL before fix: only Linux-local entries under
/home/<user>/.agents/skills/(no~/.cursor/skills)
Steps to reproduce
- Install personal skills on Windows under
C:\Users\<user>\.cursor\skills\(e.g.better-ui). - Confirm they appear in Agents Window / a Windows-local chat (
/better-ui). - Open a project that lives in WSL and start a new Agent chat there.
- Type
/better-ui(or check Customize → Skills for that session).
Expected
Personal skills from the Windows user profile are available in WSL Agent chats as well (or Cursor documents a first-class sync / shared skills root for WSL).
Actual
WSL Agent chats do not load Windows ~\.cursor\skills. Slash menu / available-skills catalog only reflects the Linux home.
Workaround (works today)
Treat Windows as the single source of truth and symlink from WSL:
# after copying any WSL-only skills into the Windows folders
ln -sfn /mnt/c/Users/<user>/.cursor/skills ~/.cursor/skills
ln -sfn /mnt/c/Users/<user>/.agents/skills ~/.agents/skills
Then Reload Window (if needed) and open a new Agent chat. /better-ui works again.
Request
One (or more) of:
- Auto-bridge personal skills for WSL/Remote-WSL the same way Sync Skills exists for Cloud Agents (host ↔ WSL).
- Clear docs + UI when a WSL/remote session cannot see host personal skills (and how to fix it).
- Optional: discover skills from a configured shared path so Windows and WSL don’t silently diverge.
Happy to provide more logs/screenshots if useful.
Operating System (if it applies)
Windows 10/11
