Hey there, I keep getting this message:
This is a very old version of Cursor. Please update to the latest version for the best experience.

Version Information

Cursor: 3.13.25
Cursor CLI: 3.0.9 (93e276db…, x64)

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hey there, thanks for the details - the two version lines in your report are actually the clue:

  • Cursor: 3.13.25 — the fresh install you downloaded.
  • Cursor CLI: 3.0.9 (93e276db…, x64) — commit 93e276db… is the April 2026 3.0.9 release.

So the Cursor window you’re actually launching is still the old 3.0.9 install. That’s why the banner comes back after every action - the update you downloaded landed as a second install, but the shortcut you click is still pointing at the old one.

To land on a single clean install on Windows:

  1. Fully quit Cursor (confirm no Cursor process is left in Task Manager, including any tray icon).
  2. Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps. If Cursor appears more than once, uninstall every entry. Your settings, chats, and extensions live in %APPDATA%\Cursor and %USERPROFILE%\.cursor and are preserved by the uninstaller — you won’t lose them.
  3. Delete any old CursorSetup.exe from your Downloads folder so you don’t re-run a stale installer.
  4. Download a fresh copy from cursor.com/downloads and install.
  5. Re-pin your taskbar/desktop shortcut to the new Cursor.exe (usually at %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\cursor\Cursor.exe).

Then open Help > About - it should show 3.13.x. The banner will stop once the version you’re actually launching is on the current supported build.

There’s a known Windows updater issue that can leave a stale install behind after a partial update, which is something we’re tracking. Let me know what Help > About shows after the reinstall!

Thank you very much for the explanation. The report has now been successfully submitted, and the following version is installed:

Cursor 3.13.25 (x64, Commit 31e8d61c448c7472e371505838a0fe34083dad50) is installed.
