Usage Limit Banner persists after configuring external Gemini API Key

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

I am on a Team subscription that has reached its usage limit. To continue working, I configured a personal Google Gemini API key (from AI Studio) within Cursor settings.
Despite having a valid API key configured, restarting the application, and opening a new chat, the banner “Your team has reached its usage limit. Request higher limits to continue using Cursor” persists at the bottom of the screen. The IDE seems to prioritize the Team subscription status for UI state over the active status of the custom API key.

Steps to Reproduce

Use a Cursor Team account until the usage limit is reached.

Observe the “Usage limit reached” banner appearing at the bottom.

Go to Settings and configure a valid Google Gemini API Key.

Restart Cursor and open a new chat window.

Issue: The banner and “Request Limit Increase” button remain visible and active, even though requests should now be routing through the personal API.

Expected Behavior

The usage limit banner should be suppressed or dismissible once a valid personal API key is active, as the “Team limit” no longer applies to the current AI session.

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hey there!

On Team Plans, the Cursor Token Fee still needs to be paid on requests. If you have reached your individual spend limits, that will require an admin to enable on-demand spend.
