What happens when plan file is saved

the new plan mode creates an md file with description and there are couple of things:
first, when i hit build within the md file, agent says he does not see the plan, i must click the “build” within the chat window
second, what happens when i save the plan.md file? i did it and cant find it anywhere.

Hi, thanks for trying out the plan mode beta! Plans are ephemeral by default, and are not saved to a file unless you click the “save to workspace” button at the top right of the chat bubble. It will then be saved as markdown to the .cursor/plans folder in your workspace.

As for the agent not being able to read your plan, sounds like you may be on an earlier client version! There was a bug there that was fixed, let me know if the issue persists after updating.

Does not work for me, running Cursor version 1.7.44 :

  • Plan .md file is blank in Agent Window’s Files panel
  • “Save to Workspace” opens another completely blank file (this time with a UUID in the filename)
  • Can’t find the .md file anywhere in my workspace

I have to ask the Agent to quote the entire plan for me in the chat pane, as that’s the only place I can see it. First time I’ve tried this mode, buggy from the get-go.

Thanks for checking in Jai, this no longer happens with Cursor 2.0.
