Why does Cursor iOS require iOS 26? Need an official technical reason

Feature request for product/service

Cursor for iOS

Describe the request

The App Store lists Cursor iOS as requiring iOS 26.0 or later. Existing threads asked to support iOS 18, but there is still no official explanation of why iOS 26 is the minimum:

Building with the iOS 26 / Xcode 26 SDK does not by itself require a deployment target of iOS 26. Unless the app depends on iOS 26-only APIs, the minimum version can usually be set to iOS 18.

Please:

  1. Explain the technical reason Cursor iOS must require iOS 26 (specific APIs, UI framework, or policy).
  2. If there is no hard API dependency, please lower the minimum to iOS 18 so users who cannot or will not upgrade can install the app.

Hey @cscs, thanks for raising this!

You’re right that building with the iOS 26 SDK doesn’t by itself force an iOS 26 deployment target. In our case the app was built from the start on frameworks that only exist in iOS 26.

Lowering the minimum isn’t something we can commit to right now, but we hear the request and are watching how many people it affects.

If you’re on a device that can’t move to iOS 26, cursor.com/agents works in mobile Safari for starting and following agents in the meantime!
