Grok 4.5 natively supports a 500k context window, but why is Grok 4.5 on Cursor limited to only 256k? This capacity is really insufficient. Will Cursor consider expanding the context window for Grok 4.5 in the future? Or will there be new first-party models with longer context windows launching in the near term?
Hey, thanks for the request. There’s an important detail here: the native Grok 4.5 from xAI really does come with a 500k context window, but the model called Cursor Grok 4.5 in Cursor is a separate model, and its context window is 256k by design. So it’s not the same 500k model that we trimmed down, it’s a different configuration. 256k is expected behavior here, not a bug.
About expanding the window and launching new first-party models with a larger context, I can’t share specific plans or timelines yet. We’ll post any model updates here on the forum.
