Why do I have to type something in a previous chat just to make the Revert option appear? The option no longer shows by default. Please restore it so users can revert changes without sending another message.
Hey, thanks for the report. There are two things here.
First, about the design: the Restore Checkpoint button shows up when you hover over the previous message, and only if the agent actually edited files after it. For a trailing turn with no edits like the “thanks” in your screenshot, it shouldn’t appear.
Second, the button disappearing on earlier prompts and only coming back after you send a new message or restart Cursor is a known bug on our side. Your workaround is real. Sending any message or restarting reruns the check and brings the button back.
Another option until this is fixed: click the previous message, edit it, and resend it. That will roll back to that checkpoint without waiting for the button to appear.
I can’t share a fix timeline yet, but we’re tracking the issue. I’ll post an update in the thread once I have one.
I don’t see revert option on hover, even though that prompt made changes to the files.
@Shishir_Umrao this is the same thing described earlier in the thread. It’s a known issue on our side. The Restore Checkpoint button sometimes disappears when you hover over earlier prompts, even if that prompt edited files.
A couple workarounds while we don’t have a fix:
- Send any message in the chat or restart Cursor. This reruns the check and brings the button back.
- Or click the previous message, edit it, and send it again. That rolls back to that checkpoint without waiting for the button.
