I am also still seeing the same issue in the latest Cursor (3.8.11), with the Superpowers plugin installed.
Hey @Blue_Raja, the screenshot from the Hooks panel shows the cause: the Superpowers plugin registers sessionStart → ./hooks/session-start. That’s a bash script with no file extension, and Windows doesn’t know what to open it with. That’s why you see the “Select an app to open” dialog every time a session starts.
Two options:
- Easiest: remove the Superpowers plugin (and Ralph Loop too, if you have it). The OP in that thread did this and the dialogs stopped.
- If you want to keep the plugin: there’s a workaround using a small PowerShell wrapper. Follow @Emrah’s step by step guide here: Windows "Select an app to open" dialog triggers when opening AI chat (.sh file handler issue) - #8 by Emrah
One important note: we’ve improved how hooks run on Windows over the last few weeks, but updating Cursor alone won’t fix this. As long as the plugin points to a bare ./hooks/session-start with no extension, the dialog will keep showing up. To fully fix it, the plugin needs to point to a Windows safe entry point like run-hook.cmd or a .ps1 file. This is a known limitation, and I can’t share an ETA for a fix on our side yet.
Let me know if the workaround helped.
Just a heads up, the Amazon AWS Deployments skill causes this to happen also. Just removed it now, issue gone.
