Your version of Cursor is no longer supported

I’ve had this appear almost daily and I need to download a new version and restart the app. Now even after a fresh install of a new version, this message persists and I’m unable to use the IDE.

How can I solve this issue?

Is there not a better way to manage updates? Is there some auto update feature? This is getting worst as time goes by and is making me reconsider cursor as a tool since this is very disruptive.

Please help!

Hey there!
That message is a backend minimum-version check that blocks builds below the current supported version. The reason it survives a “fresh install” on Windows is almost always that an older copy is still the one actually launching, so the new version never becomes the one that runs.

To land on a single clean install:

  1. Fully quit Cursor (confirm no Cursor process is left in Task Manager).
  2. Uninstall it via Settings > Apps > Installed apps. If it’s listed more than once, remove all of them (your settings and chats are stored separately and won’t be lost).
  3. Reinstall the latest from cursor.com/downloads and re-pin your shortcut to the new Cursor.exe.
  4. Open Help > About and confirm it shows 3.13.x.

Cursor auto-updates in the background by default, so you shouldn’t need to do this regularly. There’s a known Windows updater issue that can leave a stale install behind, which is what our team is working on improving.

After reinstalling, what version does Help > About show?
