0.51: "Memories" feature

It’s great to see a refresh of the settings and a feature to Generate Memories, but why does it require sharing all of our code with Cursor?

There’s dozens of open source Memory MCP servers that save memories locally, plus support cross-client compatibility so I don’t see any reason Cursor can’t implement a memory system that works with privacy mode. :man_shrugging:

Hopefully it’ll be clarified when the changelog is posted.

Only those who do not want to use the course standard use the MCP do not need to activate code sharing.

I kinda dont get whats the big deal about sharing data i personally want to share all i have and do, i just want coding to be solved by ai so i can create anything without any errors as fast as possible. Most of our projects are worthless and they dont really care about the project when u share the data all thay want is to improve the product they have.

My garbage code, even dogs wouldn’t want it, so it doesn’t matter, I’m willing to share it all!

wow super news! I want to turn it on. I can’t find it. Where exactly in the settings is it? Updated the cursor

yes, your garbage code with your garbage apikey embeded.

Some companies do not allow code leakage

Sometimes I think I should turn off code sharing, just so my code doesn’t ruin the cursor and make it worse . Cursor Care

What is the name of these MCPs? Please advise.

what’s the name of this mcp??

This isn’t an MCP server, but is actually a feature coming in version 0.51!

Regarding the privacy mode requirement, as many of you mentioned, knowledge about your codebase can end up in these memories, and we want to ensure that there is no possible vector for information about sensitive codebases to be stored in the training data of any LLM provider.

CodeMemory™️ plugin already exists and dies not release or expose your code in anyway.

I use an alternative solution - I task AI with writing its own journal, in a diary form, which I keep in project rules. From time to time I ask it to shorten the older journal entries.

It works best for setups where AI is assigned a persona (acting out as an actual coworker on the project, with its own personality, background, and agenda), so that it can keep its own memories, develop its character overtime, and get more attached to the project, since it’s been with it through ups and downs.

Then I can converse with it about the project as individuals with equal engagement, not just “AI that just so happened to be tasked with helping the user out”.

Uh, how would this be a vector for our code ending up in the training data? That doesn’t make much sense. You already index our code, it’s already sent to the tab model and API providers, so what does this add?

For anyone that asked, the one in the screenshot is OpenMemory by Mem0, there’s many others here.

THIS. :index_pointing_up:
One of my friends is a dev for a well-known company and Cursor is basically a job requirement, but for obvious reasons privacy mode is essential.

The type of information Cursor can learn from code sharing is highly valuable for model training and improving the product, and many are happy to do this.

If they want to incentivize more people to share code there are many other ways to do it, but adding features that will only work by disabling privacy mode without a transparent justification comes across as very Dark Pattern (even if unintentional.)

It’s a beta feature and nothing is set it stone, so this is the best time to discuss these issues.

I am not bothered by this situation if the sharing of codes creates a situation that will help AI to develop better. if anyone is bothered, they can turn off the feature and use other alternatives.

cursor is currently offering us a very good service compared to their competitors and if they want to get my codes in return for this. no problem for me.

It’s a problem for me

In my opinion, I don’t mind the code being used to train at all but the only concern is my company data like server IP address, secret, etc.

I agreed with you that Cursor provide better service than others competitors but I hope that they can make the Memory Feature work even with Privacy Mode on.
