2025-10-25 10:04:21.945 [error] Error installing Cursor server [wsl exec: installServerScript] Command failed with exit code 4294967295: stdout: Catastrophic failure
Error code: Wsl/Service/E_UNEXPECTED

Steps to Reproduce

Either trying to reinstall the Cursor server or reloading the window in Cursor IDE shows this error - Connection to Cursor server failed.

Operating System

Windows 10/11

Current Cursor Version (Menu → About Cursor → Copy)

Version: 1.7.54 (user setup)

Yes - Cursor is unusable

I also have issues, very slow access to cursor infra (maybe). yesterday slow execution, today chats not loading. 1.7.54 macos M1

Having the same issue. Cursor has become unusable.

New unexpected OS pending updates caused this Catastrophic failure while Cursor was running.
Fixed the issue after rebooting the machine.

This error indicates that there was an error connecting to WSL. You will need to either shutdown wsl (wsl --shutdown) or reboot your computer.
