Cursor agents have to ask for permission to edit files like .env. This can be turned off, but it creates security risks if turned off completely. It would be very helpful if we could set exceptions to the protection rules. For instance, we might want to allow Cursor agents to view and edit .env.testing or .env.example while excluding everything else in this hidden dot prefix pattern. Some files should be able to be set to readable securely such as .env without being editable.
Cursor agents frequently have issues knowing these files even exist and will perform all sorts of problematic workarounds that aren’t needed because they are certain these environment config files don’t exist when they do.
