Sorry to hear the issue persists on 3.0.12. Our team has shipped several extension host stability improvements in the 3.0 series, and the issue is resolved for most users, but we’re aware some are still affected.

Since this thread covers a wide range of versions and platforms going back to January, I’m going to close it out. If you’re still experiencing this on 3.0+, please create a new thread with the following details so our engineering team can investigate your specific case:

  1. Your version info (copy from Help > About Cursor)

  2. What you were doing immediately before the error (opening a new window, switching workspaces, using agent mode, etc.)

  3. How large your workspace is (rough number of files/folders)

  4. Whether you’re using Remote SSH or working locally

  5. Whether this happens every time or is intermittent

  6. Whether waiting 30-60 seconds (without clicking Reload Window) and retrying helps

In the meantime, a few things worth trying:

  • Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+P > Developer: Restart Extension Host

  • Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+P > Developer: Reload Window With Extensions Disabled (to rule out extension conflicts)

  • Check your state database file (state.vscdb). If it’s over 1-2 GB, renaming it and restarting Cursor can help (you’ll need to re-login). Location: ~/Library/Application Support/Cursor/User/globalStorage/ (macOS) or %APPDATA%\Cursor\User\globalStorage\ (Windows).

Thanks to all for your patience on this.
