Hello, I am trying to use cursor (Auto) and keep getting htis error?

Anyone know a fix?

Hey, thanks for the report.

This error points to an extension host issue. Please try:

CMD/CTRL+Shift+P → “Developer: Reload Window”
Check extensions: Settings > Application > Experimental > Extension Monitor Enabled, then CMD/CTRL+Shift+P → “Developer: Open Extension Monitor”. See if any extensions look problematic.
Try running Cursor with extensions disabled: run cursor --disable-extensions in your terminal.

If that doesn’t help, please share:

Your OS and Cursor version (Help > About)
Which extensions are installed
A screenshot from Help > Toggle Developer Tools > Console (if you see any red errors)
What you were doing right before the error showed up

Let me know if reloading the window helps.

What I was doing: I had just updated cursor, went to talk to the AI and it just said the error i posted above.

Thanks for the logs, I can see what’s causing the issue.

The key error in the console is:

[Extension Host] Git installation not found.
Activating extension 'anysphere.cursor-agent-exec' failed: failed to load GitAPI from vscode.git extension.

Agent mode needs Git to work. Please:

Install Git: Redirecting…
During setup, make sure you select the option to add Git to PATH
Fully restart Cursor

After that, check in Command Prompt: git --version

If Git is already installed but Cursor can’t see it, make sure the Git path is added to the system PATH environment variable.

If the issue still happens after installing Git, try enabling Legacy Terminal Mode:

Ctrl+Shift+J → Agents → Inline Editing & Terminal
Turn on “Legacy Terminal Tool”
Restart Cursor

Let me know if this fixes it.

2.Failed at the same time, was on Composer 1 when noticed. All models produce the same sort of errors in console.

@Zoli_K I can see a screenshot showing a Composer timeout error. Based on the console logs in your message, the issue is that Git isn’t installed:

[Extension Host] Git installation not found.
Activating extension 'anysphere.cursor-agent-exec' failed: failed to load GitAPI from vscode.git extension.

The agent needs Git installed to work. Try this:

Install Git: Redirecting…
During installation, make sure you select the option to add Git to PATH
Fully restart Cursor
Check in Command Prompt: git --version

If Git is already installed but Cursor can’t see it, add the Git path to your system PATH variable.

If the issue still happens after installing Git, try enabling Legacy Terminal Mode:

Ctrl+Shift+J → Agents → Inline Editing & Terminal
Enable “Legacy Terminal Tool”
Restart Cursor

The models started to respond misteriously just before I went on to install Git.
However network diagnostics still throw up these issues:

OK this seems to be an issue with my local network. I’m working to fix it.

Thanks for the screenshot. In Network Diagnostics, Ping, Chat, and Agent show proxy buffering errors.

Since the models are already working, these warnings might not be critical. But to fully fix them, try this:

Disable HTTP/2: App Settings Ctrl+, → search for “HTTP/2” → enable “Disable HTTP/2”
Fully restart Cursor
Run Network Diagnostics again

Also, can you check if you’re using Tailscale, a corporate VPN, or any kind of proxy? That’s a common cause of proxy buffering errors.

Let me know if Diagnostics still shows errors after these steps.

The Crosser Pro hasn’t been working since yesterday. I hope the problem can be solved because we have work to do. There’s been a problem since yesterday, and I contacted them via email but they didn’t help.

I have the exact same problem…I updated Cursor yesterday and it’s been broken since. I got a response from their Support email, but it couldn’t be resolved and was “escalated”. Nothing since. Does anyone know if there is a way to rollback to a previous WORKING version without loosing hundreds of hours of work and history? Or is any of the previous version working so the problem is on their end.
