Im on the nightly build and recently saw the addition of agent skills, the open standard started by Anthropic. While I think I understand both, I still don’t get why you should use an agent-decided cursor rule above an agent skill or why this specific type of rule doesn’t get deprecated.
Reading the reply on this thread, I read that they serve different purposes, but are they really that different? I don’t see why you should still use an agent-decided cursor rule while you can just create a skill, something that does the same thing and is cross-compatible with other AI platforms.
I get the idea behind skills is more to give the agent new capabilities accross different projects, rather than just being extra information about a specific project, but that’s just the idea behind it, I don’t see any difference in execution (I may be wrong here). As you can see in the docs, you can also define project specific skills.
Is there still a use for agent-decided Cursor rules when skills is included in a main release of Cursor?
