Agent execution provider did not respond in time

I’m using cursor 3.6.31 on windows. I added a repository and asked the agent to explain this codebase. I got this error:

The agent execution provider did not respond in time. This may indicate the extension host is not running or is unresponsive. Request ID: 20b6ac9c-f6ca-4233-8ddb-9dd93980ea2b

Please help identify the issue.

Hi Lin — sorry for the trouble, and thanks for the clear report (and for including the Request ID). You’re not doing anything wrong here. This is a known area we’re actively investigating.

A few things worth trying in the meantime:

  1. Fully quit and relaunch Cursor to clear a stale extension-host session.
  2. Launch once with cursor --disable-extensions to rule out a third-party extension stalling startup.
  3. If you’re opening the repo over WSL, SSH, or a remote/network drive, try opening a local copy of the folder directly to see if the behavior changes — this issue can be sensitive to how the working directory resolves.
