Problem:
Cursor Agent freezes during all file system operations on macOS 2027.
Symptoms:
Agent shows “Exploring X searches” → freezes
“Grepping [filename]” → no response
“Searching files **/filename” → freezes
“Reading filename.swift” → no response
After ~1 hour: “ConnectError: http/2 stream closed with error code CANCEL (0x8)”
What works: Normal file search (Cmd+P) works instantly Manually opening files works Cmd+K works Network connection to Cursor servers works Tokens available
System:
macOS 2027
Cursor: [your version from terminal]
Project: Swift macOS App (~50,000+ files with backup folders)
Steps to Reproduce:
System: macOS 2027
Open a larger Swift project in Cursor (e.g., with several thousand files)
Open the Cursor Agent (chat panel on the right)
Enter a request that requires file operations:
Example: “Open the file PatientViewController.swift and check validation”

Hey, thanks for the detailed report. This matches an issue we’re tracking for users who recently upgraded to macOS 27.
What’s happening is that the macOS 27 upgrade does not carry over Rosetta. If your PATH has an Intel-only git first (usually an older Homebrew install in /usr/local/bin), the agent’s file tools (grep/search/read) can hang on it forever. That’s why Cmd+P and opening files manually works, but Grepping, Searching, and Reading never finish.
Can you check this:
Fully quit Cursor Cmd+Q.
In Terminal, run: file "$(which git)"
If the output shows x86_64 (not arm64), do ONE of these:
Or remove the old Intel git: sudo rm -f /usr/local/bin/git (macOS has its own git at /usr/bin/git)
Or in Cursor Settings, find git.path and set it to /usr/bin/git
Restart Cursor, open your project, and ask the agent something simple like “Read Package.swift” or “Find all TODO comments”.
Please share the output from step 2, and let me know if step 4 helped. If which git already shows arm64 and it still hangs, tell me and we’ll dig deeper.
Quick update: we found the cause of the agent hanging on grep, search, and read after the macOS 27 upgrade. A fix is coming in Cursor 3.23, so the agent will no longer get stuck when the git on your PATH can’t run.
Until you’re on 3.23, the workaround from the earlier reply still applies. Run file "$(which git)" in Terminal, and if it shows x86_64, either reinstall Rosetta (softwareupdate --install-rosetta --agree-to-license) or remove the old Intel git (sudo rm -f /usr/local/bin/git), then restart Cursor.
One correction: changing the git.path setting only affects Source Control, not the agent, so please use one of the two options above instead.
