Agents Window is hostile UX — Classic must stay default forever

### Feature request / hard product feedback

**Product:** Cursor IDE (Windows, 3.11.x)

The problem

After updates, Cursor keeps launching the **Agents Window** instead of Classic editor. I am forced to press **Ctrl+Shift+N** every single time. This is exhausting and makes me want to uninstall.

What I love

**Classic** (editor + AI chat in the sidebar) is excellent. Please keep it forever. Do **not** deprecate `–classic`.

What I hate

Agents Window / Glass as a forced startup UI. It feels like an intrusion, not an improvement.

Concrete asks

  1. Default launch must be **Classic editor**
  2. Setting **Open Agents Window on Startup = Never** must actually stick after updates and after session restore
  3. Installer / updates must not reset launch behavior back to Agents Window
  4. Document `cursor --classic` prominently

Bottom line

Classic = keep.
Forced Agents Window on startup = remove that behavior.

Please escalate to the product team owning Agents Window / Glass. Many users are saying the same thing.

Hey, thanks for the feedback. There’s an existing thread on this, so let’s consolidate there: Cursor Always Starts in Agent Mode Instead of IDE Mode - #28 by Colin

Quickly:

  • Open Agents Window on Startup = Off doesn’t mean always IDE. It restores the last used window. If IDE was last, it will open IDE.
  • To force IDE, launch via cursor --classic or use Ctrl+Shift+N, then close the Agents window so IDE is the last used window. We’re not deprecating --classic.

We’re clarifying this setting now and will likely rename it. Please follow up in the thread above.
