Describe the Bug

I did the update to Version 3.24.18 (system setup) on Windows 10 on 14th October 2026. Now none of my existing chats nor new chats work with any model… I just get ‘Connection failed. Please try again, or contact support if the issue persists.’.

The error request states:

When I loaded up for the first time after the update my theme was reset from dark to light (default) - so not sure if settings were reset.

I set the HTTP from HTTP2 to HTTP1.1 and tried HTTP1.0. Whilst this did resolve the network diagnostics to give a tick next to ‘Agent’ and ‘Chat’, the issue with Connection Error persisted for all chats and models.

I restarted my PC and the issue persists.

Steps to Reproduce

Update Cursor to Version 3.24.18 (system setup) and then type in chat.

Expected Behavior

The chat won’t answer and it will come up with same connection error popup.

Hey, thanks for the report and for sharing the full error text. That helped a lot.

This is a known issue we’re tracking, and I’ve passed your case to the team. It isn’t a network issue, so switching HTTP versions wouldn’t help. You can safely switch back to HTTP/2. The chat crashes inside Cursor before the request is even sent, when the window has no project folder attached. This usually happens if the window or a saved workspace was restored without any folders inside. A profile reset during the 3.24 install could’ve caused that, which also matches the theme reset you noticed.

To get chats working again:

  1. In the editor window, open File > Open Folder… and choose one of your project folders directly, not a saved workspace and not an item from Recent.
  2. Once the folder shows up in Explorer, open a new chat and send a short message.

If you also use the Agents window and it still crashes there:

  1. Fully close Cursor, including from the system tray.
  2. Press Win+R, enter %APPDATA%\Cursor, and press Enter.
  3. Rename the Workspaces folder to Workspaces.bak.
  4. Start Cursor, open your project folder through File > Open Folder…, then try a new chat.

Please let me know if the new chat worked after step 2 in the first list, and whether Explorer showed “NO FOLDER OPENED” before you opened the folder. Let me know how it goes.
