AI Chat pane is blank

Seems the AI chat is blank

I already uninstall and reinstalled but the error still persists.

Hoping for your help in this.

Getting this too.

Hi @mabreyes

Have you tried reinstalling by following this guide?

I figured out a way to go around this, as I experienced the problem with just a blank pane when clicking on the “Toggle AI Pane” button:

First, add AI-chat keybinding in Preferences under Keyboard Shortcuts:
File > Preferences > Keyboard Shortcuts

Now, Shortcut windows appears, in the filter box type ‘Show AI Chat’.

Then, add a Keybinding that doesn’t exist already (I used Ctrl+'). Then close the shortcuts editor, and you should be able to use the new keyshortcut to open the AI pane.

WORKING SOLUTION:

Cursor has addressed this issue in newer versions by adding a “Create a new chat” button in the AI Pane, making it more intuitive to start conversations with the AI assistant.

If you’re using an older version of Cursor where:

  1. The Chat option is not visible in the AI Pane
  2. CMD + I opens the Chat window as a new editor tab instead of the AI Pane

You can resolve this by:

  1. Opening Chat window as a new editor tab by doing CMD + I
  2. Clicking the menu button (three dots) in the top-right corner of the editor
  3. Selecting “Open inside AI Pane” from the dropdown menu

Additional tips:

  • The AI Pane typically appears on the right side of your editor
  • If you don’t see the menu button, try looking for three vertical dots (⋮) in the editor’s header
  • After making this change, CMD + I should open the chat directly in the AI Pane
  • You can toggle the AI Pane visibility using CMD + Shift + I
