Here’s a concise summary of the key points from the article “About Claude’s Max Plan Usage”:
1. Max Plan Tiers and Pricing
Max 5x: $100/month, offering 5 times the usage of the Pro plan.
Max 20x: $200/month, providing 20 times the usage of the Pro plan.(support.anthropic.com)
These tiers cater to users with varying needs, from frequent to daily intensive use. (support.anthropic.com)
2. Usage Limits and Sessions
Session Definition: A session starts with your first message to Claude and lasts for 5 hours. All messages within this window count toward the same session.
Message Limits:
Max 5x: Approximately 225 messages per 5-hour session.
Max 20x: Approximately 900 messages per 5-hour session.
Session Cap: Users are advised not to exceed 50 sessions per month (equivalent to 250 hours). This is a flexible guideline to prevent excessive usage and ensure fair access for all Max subscribers. Warnings are provided as users approach this limit. (support.anthropic.com, support.anthropic.com)
3. Context Window
The context window size remains at 200,000 tokens across all plans, including Max. This means that while you can send more messages, the length of individual chats is subject to the same context window limit as other plans. (support.anthropic.com)
4. Claude Code Usage
Max plan users have access to Claude Code in their terminal. Usage limits apply across both Claude and Claude Code, meaning all activity in both tools counts against the same usage limits.
Prompt Limits:
Max 5x: Approximately 50–200 prompts per 5-hour session.
Max 20x: Approximately 200–800 prompts per 5-hour session.
It is assuring to know, that the bank is not breaking because of extreme usage. My expenditure was very high last month. I can say +200 USD. The Anthropic Max Plan delivers the same service with a lower cost. I just need to know if Cursor can use Anthropic url and key to integrate, and if Claude runs in Agent mode.
So I tried this this morning, and it bills it separately for the API key, AFAICT your $200 max plan is useless if you want to use Cursor. If I’m wrong please tell me so I can fix it :')
I have some experience with it and cancelled + do not recommend it. Unless you’re a power-user and know how to do all the bleeding edge Claude App integrations/connections I’d say its not really worth it unless you want to spend 20 minutes per prompt.
The context that Cursor manages for us is a lot better than Claude for sweeping codebase changes. Depends on your use-case
