What are people’s thoughts on API pricing transparency? Last month I upgraded to the Ultra plan, and the experience was quite good, I was happy enough with the service and value I got. The pricing and usage seemed to be relatively transparent. I was able to see how much exactly in dollar value I used out of the 400 dollar usage limit. On the cursor dashboard I was also able to see usage statistics, with the price of each agent run / request broken down and token used.
This was nice for two reasons:
I could see exactly where and how my usage is being spent.
Compare various model costs over certain tasks and workflows.
I felt like I was getting a transparent service.
Now with the latest cursor updates. I just see a bar with percentage. I spent another 200 dollars on the Ultra plan. But now I am not so sure where my usage is going to….I don’t have the control and transparency as before. In the dashboard too, it just says “included”
Would like to know other’s opinions on this, regardless of the plan they are on.
Also cursor team if you are reading this, please give the option for transparency and control for power users, we are paying a lot of money up front for this.
Hi ET, Thanks for sharing this. Could you please clarify which bar you’re referring to (e.g. where it appears in the UI and what it represents)?
Also, feel free to hide or redact any sensitive information (account details, usage numbers, identifiers, etc.) if needed. That should still be enough to understand the behavior you’re describing.
First image is from cursor desktop app: this is how the usage is now shown. I can’t see exactly how much in USD pricing I have used out of $400…e.g previously I was able to see $20.33/$400 for example….
Good to know they have some transparency still. Thanks for pointing that out.
Would still prefer to have breakdown and price in the cursor editor itself and also in the dashboard usage table.
It would be great to have it in the agent / chat interface in the IDE too, they already have context percent, would be nice to also see the usage so far in that conversation / agent session.
