I’m working on sharing rules with other engineers in my org. However, when I drop a .mdc file into cursor/rules, it seems that the cursor “association” isn’t being made, i.e. the settings in the front matter aren’t be picked up. Has anyone faced this issue?
This makes sharing rules impractical or at least cumbersome because each engineers will need to update the rule settings for each new rule (or changed rule) every time.
As someone who does never use the Cursor editor for rules and moves rules or adds them to project manually this works for me.
Would you share what is not working or what is happening?
Do your rules have correct headers (always allow or glob or description set to allow AI to chose which rule applies)?
Well, I previously was seeing cursor add mdc headers above my own mdc headers resulting in incorrect headers above the ones I had added. But I just ran through the process again and now cursor seems to be picking up the headers. I’m not sure what I did differently.
In any case, reassuring that it’s been working for you as expected so I’ll assume user error on my part.
