This is just a bit of feedback.
I wish Cursor was right for me. I’ll respectfully share why it isn’t.
I’m primarily interested in using Cursor for editing Bicep templates. It’s an Azure specific DSL to generate ARM templates, for provisioning services in Azure. The Bicep DSL is implemented in Python. I have to imagine the MS Bicep extension is leveraging proprietary Pylance features. Regardless, it seems there are some struggles with using Python in Cursor.
Pricing:
I’m willing to pay an annual subscription to use Cursor with any model of my choice. I want to subscribe to the IDE, as software. I don’t want to subscribe to Cursor’s AI code-assistant prompt routing and completion service.
Local Privacy:
My company’s policy forbids the kind of traffic routing that Cursor is based upon. I could make the case for Cursor, if it supported direct routing to one of the APIs where we have contractually enforced privacy. However, when all code-assistance traffic is routed through Cursor’s servers, the barrier to adoption exceeds the potential benefit.
Thank you for reading.
I’ll keep an eye on Cursor’s future.
