I’m trying to build a plan in a chat and build it in a new chat (to keep my context size small), but I can’t figure out how to do that in Cursor. The “Build” button doesn’t seem to allow building in a new chat.
Has anyone found a way to do this?

If you click on View Plan, then scroll down to the bottom under the task list, you can spin off a new agent right from the plan.

You can save the plan to your workspace (project) and then in new chat use the @ reference to directly add that plan. The agent will execute it that way in new chat.
Thank you for your suggestion. I did, but then the Build button on top remains linked to the initial agent. Is there a way to make that button pointing to the new agent? I ask because when attaching the plan to a new agent, if I ask it to build the plan, it is not able to follow and mark what is going to be performed in the plan.md file.
@condor to echo the point made by Felipe, is there any way to make the “Build” button use the currently open agent chat instead of always using the chat which authored the plan?
You do not need to use the build button. In the new chat you can reference the plan directly
Why is the default behavior of the “Build” button not to do it in a fresh chat? It seems silly to reuse the existing chat which already likely has used 60-80% of its context window in the researching & planning phase when the plan should spell out all the necessary/required information for the task already? It seems like both a waste of time(slower responses with larger context window) and money to do it this way, with minimal, if any, tangible benefits.
