C/C++ Extension Usage Restriction Message Appears in Cursor

Hello Cursor team,

I’m reporting an issue related to the usage of the C/C++ extension within Cursor.

:puzzle_piece: Bug Description
When attempting to use the C/C++ extension, I receive the following message, and the extension’s functionality appears to be restricted:

“The C/C++ extension may be used only with Microsoft Visual Studio, Visual Studio for Mac, Visual Studio Code, Azure DevOps, Team Foundation Server, and successor Microsoft products and services to develop and test your applications.”

Thanks for reporting a bug you have found in Cursor!
Please add the following info to help us diagnose your issue:

:white_check_mark: Check the forum to ensure the issue hasn’t been reported already
:lady_beetle: Provide a clear description of the bug
:counterclockwise_arrows_button: Explain how to reproduce the bug (if known)
:camera: Attach screenshots or recordings (e.g., .jpg, .png, .mp4).
:laptop: Tell us your operating system and your Cursor version (e.g., Windows, 0.x.x).
:prohibited: Tell us if the issue stops you from using Cursor.

The C/C++ extension is blocked by Microsoft :upside_down_face:

Right click on the C++ extension, and install a specific version, like 1.24.3, then you can use it again.

I’m disgusted.
:sob:
I think this is a tactic Microsoft uses to enhance the competitiveness of Copilot.
I can do nothing about it.

100% users in Cursor reddit explain this in detail: https://old.reddit.com/r/cursor/comments/1jrl981/microsoft_has_released_their_own_cursor/
VSCode is opensource, marketplace isn’t, Cursor may use another market in the future to solve this issue

Because a new version of VS Code has been recently released, which supports agents, this behavior has now become reasonable.
 :sob:

It’s because Cursor hasn’t updated the version of vscode, please update the version, I can use C++ normally after modifying the application marketplace with vscodium

Or they can create an extension instead. Wjy forking the whole thing?

I tried it yesterday. VSC agent functionality is so bad is mostly useless. The autocomplete is really bad as well
