Catastrophic lag has made Cursor unusable

Describe the Bug

Many git related operations have started taking over 50x longer.

For example, a git stage operation that used to take 2 seconds, is now taking up to 2 minutes.

I’ve tried:

  • reinstall Cursor
  • inspect memory of extensions in Cursor. None are offensively large.

Cursor does seem to be taking up 90 - 100% of ram when these issues happen, even though I’m not doing much else on the PC (or within Cursor).

Can the Cursor team please fix this?

It’s becoming unusable.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Load Cursor
  2. Do a git related operation

hi @AuspiciousSolitude we updated Cursor to 1.4.6 in Early Access with performance fixes. Could you try that version and let us know if you still have the same issue?

Also, is the Git staging done via Agent or manually and how.

It’s working now.

This is after I applied many git optimisations (that don’t feel like they should be necessary…).

I didn’t try the Early Access release because, honestly, I’ve found that early access releases often break existing functionality.

All of the git staging was me doing it manually (typically using the UI in the left hand source control).
