.claude overrides .cursor

I have my .cursor file gitignored or listed in .git/info/exclude, while .claude, which is used by other developers, is being tracked in Git.

Even so, I have .claude in the cursor ignore list, and in the UI it displays a “disabled” icon next to .claude files. If you try to search for a skill, it ignores those in .cursor and only shows the .claude ones.

It’s a terrible bug which makes impossible to reference skills in the chat.

The more details you provide, the easier it is for us to reproduce and fix the issue. Thanks!

Hey, thanks for the report. This is a known issue. .cursorignore currently doesn’t block .claude files coming from the rules/skills loader, even if the UI shows them as disabled. The team is aware, and we’re tracking the bug.

For now, as a workaround, try turning off the setting “Include third-party Plugins, Skills, and other configs” in Cursor Settings > Rules. This should stop Cursor from pulling in .claude skills. The downside is that if you use third-party plugins from other sources, those will be disabled too.

If that setting is already off and you still see the issue, please share your Cursor version and a screenshot that shows .cursor skills don’t show up in search.

Let me know if the workaround helped.
