Clear Premium Model Identification in Cursor

Feature Request: Clear Premium Model Identification in Cursor

Current Situation:

  1. Documentation lacks clear identification of premium models, despite multiple models being available
  2. The UI provides no visual indicators to distinguish premium models from standard ones
  3. Users must rely on trial-and-error or external sources to determine which models consume premium credits

Proposed Solution:

  1. Enhance documentation with a dedicated section clearly listing all premium models and their credit consumption rates
  2. Implement visual indicators in the model selector UI, such as:
    • Bold or highlighted text for premium models
    • Premium badge or icon next to model names
    • Color-coded labels indicating premium status
  3. Add tooltips showing credit consumption when hovering over model names

Benefits:

  1. Improved transparency in model selection and credit usage
  2. Better user experience through clear visual hierarchy
  3. Reduced confusion and accidental premium credit consumption
  4. Enhanced trust through clear communication of service details

Potential Considerations:

  1. UI changes may require design updates to maintain visual consistency
  2. Documentation updates would need to be maintained as new models are added
  3. Visual indicators should be implemented in a way that doesn’t overwhelm the interface

Example Implementation:
In the model selector:

  • GPT-4 [Premium]
  • Claude 3.5 Sonnet [Premium]
  • GPT-3.5 [Standard]

yeah, even on the settings page, it’s not clearly identified, I have to go and check my settings page after using a model to see if it’s consuming premium or small requests.

Just found out that Advanced / Models – Cursor identifies the latest models

Wish there was a link to this in the settings page

Thank you for sharing the link. I didn’t know Cursor offers the docs, though it isn’t comprehensive to all the supported models in the paid tier.

Meanwhile, it would be helpful to show something to identify a model is premium or not on the Cursor IDE.
