I use Cursor with the Anysphere Remote - SSH extension to develop on a remote server, which lets me pick up my code from any device seamlessly. However, chat history with Cursor’s AI assistant remains local to each machine, breaking the continuity of my workflow when switching devices.
Request: Add cloud sync for Cursor chat history, similar to how Claude.ai syncs conversations across devices.
Use Case: I work from multiple machines (desktop, laptop, etc.) connecting to the same remote development environment. When I switch devices, I lose all context from previous AI conversations, forcing me to re-explain problems or dig through code to remember where I left off.
Why This Matters:
Remote development workflows are increasingly common
The AI chat context is as valuable as the code itself for maintaining productivity
You already have the infrastructure (Cursor accounts, web agents, cloud services)
VS Code is moving toward cloud sync features - this feels like a natural evolution
Expected Behavior:
Chat history tied to my Cursor account, not the local machine
Seamless pickup of conversations when switching devices
Optional: Ability to organize/search chat history across projects
This would make Cursor’s AI assistance truly device-agnostic, matching the flexibility of modern development workflows.
I want to second this. I have a elaborate settings and commands .md files for Cursor. I work across 3 systems with cursor daily. I would like to now have to rely on GH gists and non-native implementations.
Great suggestion! You can start cloud agents from your machine, I’d love to do the reverse and open up the browser and continue the chat running on my local machine as well. That or pull the working state into the cloud to continue there.
Right now, transcripts are stored locally in ~/.cursor/projects/.../agent-transcripts/, so as a temporary workaround you can sync that folder between machines using your own sync setup. It’s not a native solution, and we can’t guarantee compatibility.

I rely heavily on Cursor Chat/Agent history to track debugging context, architectural decisions, and multi-step tasks. Losing that history when switching machines (or after reinstalling) forces me to re-explain everything to the AI, which wastes time and tokens.
What would make this truly useful:
Chat/Agent history tied to my Cursor account (not just local disk)
Seamless continuation when switching between desktop, laptop, or Remote SSH setups
This feature really needs to happen ASAP as most developers will be working on multiple devices. It is also expected in this day and age to cloud sync and share workloads etc. The current fragmented agent conversations is already a hindrance. Token usage goes up each time the agent has to re-read the codebase
When I install Cursor on another device and sign in with the same account, my existing local chats aren’t available there. This makes it difficult to continue ongoing conversations without manually transferring context or explaining the same information again.
Please add an optional chat sync feature that lets users:
Access and continue conversations across devices using the same Cursor account.
Choose which individual chats to sync.
Keep unselected chats local to the original device.
Enable or disable automatic syncing.
Expected behavior: I select a chat for syncing on one device, then open and continue that conversation on another device with its previous messages and context available.
This would improve continuity when switching computers and give users control over which conversations are synced.
You pick the conversations you want, export a ZIP, and import it into a workspace on the other computer. After quitting and reopening Cursor, the chats appear in its chat list. I’ve been able to continue the ones I’ve transferred in my own tests.
There’s no automatic sync, and it won’t merge two versions of a conversation if you’ve continued it on both computers. You choose when to export and import.
I’d still like native sync, but this handles the manual transfer I needed.

Hey, thanks to everyone who keeps supporting this request. @Arun_Kumar_S, your thread was merged here so votes can stay in one place. I passed along the idea of selective sync for individual chats and an auto-sync toggle to the team, along with the other details from the thread.
The status is still the same. There’s no native sync for local history across devices yet, and there’s no timeline for it. Local chats are stored on the machine where they were created.
If you need to move a specific chat right now, there is one option through Agents Window. You can move a local agent to the cloud, and then it will be available from another computer under the same account, or at https://cursor.com/agents. More details: Agents Window | Cursor Docs. Keep in mind that after that, the agent runs in a cloud environment with the repository, not on your local machine, and Cloud Agents need to be available for your account or team. If the agent loses some context from earlier messages after the move, post here.
About the extension mentioned in the post above, it’s a third-party tool. We don’t officially support it, and we can’t guarantee compatibility. @AndrewC, I also passed along your note about history size and cleaning up old chats.
