On mac the cmd+shift+(left or right arrow key) combination is normally used to select all the text to the left or right or the cursor in a particular input. I use it all the time when editing my prompt in Cursor. Recently, this key combination started instead moving the composer window to the left or the right instead of selecting text. I don’t like it, don’t find it useful, and want the old functionality back.
When the focus is on the Composer, the shortcut does move the Composer window. However, if you shift the focus away from the window, the shortcut works as it used to.
I can reproduce this indeed. I can see how that can be annoying to a macOS fellow (I am also on macOS most of the times). I will try to investigate this with the team. I can’t promise it will change, but you never know .
I can’t promise yet this will make it to production, but one approach we are exploring is to only allow this moving functionality when the text input is empty in the composer. We can’t think of a better way to maintain that functionality but at the same time not interfere with the default behavior of this keyboard shortcut. Changing the shortcut entirely might be a bit more disruptive at this point.
That sounds like a great solution to me.
For now, you can use cmd + alt + arrow, but it only selects one word at a time.
On Windows we use Ctrl+Shift+Arrow to select the word to the left or right of the cursor. Right now the composer window is moving like crazy for no reason when I try to use this combo as in any other text editor.
Can this be prioritized and fixed please?
