Control+n doesn't work as expected on mac

With menus I’m used to using control+n and control+p to navigate up and down. When I say menu, I mean what pops up when you do @ or # or that kind of thing in the chat.
When I go to select a file, I type in a little, go to navigate, and it creates a new chat, and then I go back to my old chat and all of what I just typed is gone. Ideally, I’d like to be able to navigate up and down the menu with control+n and control+p as I’d expect on a mac, but at a bare minimum I don’t want everything I just typed to be lost. I know control+n is kind of an important key combo.

// Given
Using mac
typing in the chat

// When
type @some-file-name without completing it
click control+n (mostly out of habit. I’ve know about this for a while, so I do my best not to accidentally do it, but it’s just too engrained of a habit)

// Expectation
navigates focus in the cursor down one row

// Reality
creates a new chat and everything I typed was lost
