Crushes on every other request: The window terminated unexpectedly (reason: 'crashed', code: '5')

Following. I have the same issue.

It have this error as well - every few minutes it just crashes:
“the window terminated unexpectedly (reason ‘crashed’ code -536870904)”

  • Version: 0.46.9 (user setup)
  • VSCode Version: 1.96.2

It’s almost impossbile to use it anymore. This really needs to be fixed asap - as I am a paying customer. Or i really need to look for an alternative.

Agreed. Please fix cursor!

There is a previous version available for download on the website. I don’t know if that build is bug free though.

hey @Zackh1998 - happy to jump on a call as I am facing this issue repeatedly.

Hi, just dm’d you

After the latest updates, the application started malfunctioning: it crashes with the error “The window terminated unexpectedly (reason: ‘crashed’, code: ‘5’)” whenever any changes are made. Clearing the cache didn’t help resolve the issue. Additionally, the AI assistant loses the overall task context. I’m using a MacBook Air with an M1 chip.

Same experience here as well, except I have been encountering the problem for at least one version maybe more. Clearing the cache is a temp fix that always me to use cursor for a few hours before it crashes again.

It’s even hard to navigate within cursor during these periods of crashes (e.g. try to create a new chat, typing into the plan, search, build anything dialog box, etc)

Attached is a screen capture of the behavior I’m referring to. After trying to create a new composer chat, the cursor isn’t even blinking + I get the spinning rainbow wheel a couple of times before cursor crashes.

This behavior is after I have tried:

  • restarting the computer
  • shutting down the computer
  • deleting and reinstalling cursor
  • running the below commands:
    • rm -rf ~/Library/Application\ Support/Cursor/Cache
    • rm -rf ~/Library/Application\ Support/Cursor/GPUCache
    • rm -rf ~/Library/Application\ Support/Cursor/Code\ Cache

CleanShot 2025-03-12 at 21.09.44

At this point, cursor isn’t usable.

Hey, same thing here. Yes, I used only 1 chat with the agent and started yesterday, and now when I understand how fkd my code got I tried to revert to some distant checkpoint, but after trying to skip like 5-6 pages earlier it always crashes pretty much in the same spot and seems that there’s no functionality of search across the chat to find the needed checkpoint without the need to go through the pages manually

Besides that - the app just crashes randomly, I heavily used it today whole day and got like 10 random crashes apart from that

Macbook air m2

The app is amazing, but it seems that the isue is here for 2+ weeks already, is there any eta on this fix or walkarounds?

Same here on the Apple M1 chip, and it’s super annoying. I’d say it crashes on every second request and if I want to scroll back through my conversation history, forget that, it will crash. Someone please fix this… I keep geting the updates hoping one will fix my issue.

A few other pieces of information:

  • The LLM doesn’t have an impact on the usability of cursor. Tried selecting all of them, same behavior continues.

The only path that has helped me is to uninstall the app, delete everything under the Cursor Application Support folder on macOS. Doing this will allow you to use Cursor for maybe a day. BUT … having to go through the entire setup of user specific settings takes a considerable amount of time if you can remember all the settings you had in place previously :frowning:

I am having the same problem and there doesn’t seem to be a word coming from Cursor themselves? I believe I’ve encountered this problem since their recent upgrade. Yes at this point Cursor is unusable on my mac and I can’t seem to delete it into the trash even when I delete all instances in the Activity monitor. A real shame when things were progressing so well. CURSOR TEAM PLEASE HELP
