Cursor 1.7.54 can't search the web?

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

Cursor agent used to be able to search the web to learn about things, but now it claims that it has no such tool, and the interface keeps telling me “This is a very old version of Cursor.” Yes, I know, I’m keeping the old version on purpose because features have been removed from the latest version. Did you break the search tool in older versions?

Hey, thanks for the report. Let’s sort this out.

Could you share the Request ID? In the chat, click the three dots (top right) → Copy Request ID.

Also, please update to the latest version and check if search works there - version 1.7.54 is very old and may be incompatible with the current backend.

Not all models have the same set of tools. Also, I recommend not to use Auto. Also, the web search is broken.

The latest version has features like git commits removed that I need, so I can’t upgrade: Cursor 2.0: Composer, in-app browser, voice & more - #112 by endolith

The web search does work in a new conversation with Auto so I’m not sure what’s going on.
