Cursor AI Chat Not Responding

Hello,

I’ve recently been experiencing issues with Cursor AI Chat not responding to prompts. The problem occurs inconsistently but frequently — the chat sometimes fails to respond entirely after submitting a message. I’ve attempted the following troubleshooting steps:

  • Restarted the application
  • Cleared VSCode (IDE) cache
  • Started new chat sessions
  • Switched between different models

Despite these efforts, the issue persists. I’m on a Pro subscription, and I encounter one of the following errors:

Error Message:
Connection failed. If the problem persists, please check your internet connection or VPN
Request ID: ddff80ba-05a1-4e9e-9e8f-842b9830bc8c

No error message — the chat simply does not respond after submission.

Environment Details:

  • Cursor Version: 0.50.5 (user setup)
  • VSCode Version: 1.96.2
    • Commit: 96e5b01ca25f8fbd4c4c10bc69b15f6228c80770
    • Date: 2025-05-18T04:26:31.444Z
  • Electron: 34.3.4
  • Chromium: 132.0.6834.210
  • Node.js: 20.18.3
  • V8: 13.2.152.41-electron.0
  • OS: Windows 10 x64 (Build 22631)

I’ve confirmed that my internet connection is stable, and I’m not currently using a VPN.

Could you please advise on how to resolve this?

Thank you…

I have the same issues. this is shown in the dev console:

Unknown bubble conversation handler: search_replace

Have been experiencing same issue for a couple of days. Today it was worse: cursor totally frozen. Cursor 1.0 is not working for me…

If anyone here is using Cursor on WSL and you’re starting it up via “cursor .” in a directory, try opening it instead directly on Windows through the search or wherever you installed it, then navigate to your WSL directory. For some reason, this works, but opening Cursor from the WSL directory itself does not. This was not an issue on 0.50.5, yet is an issue on 1.0.0.
